Fun, festive colors in a muted economy. 2009 Pre-Pre-Spring Makeup Forecast

Seriously, everyone needs to lighten up. Lots. So your 401K is a bitter memory, your paycheck (if your lucky enough to have one) can only afford you Hamburger Helper (as if you would partake). Forget eating and focus on what's important...your makeup look for early Spring 2009. Hopefully all that not being able to afford to eat will give you naturally sculpted cheeks and you won't have to resort to all that tacky "contouring" that keeps getting flounced around by heavily spray tanned TV makeup gayrus. You don't want to end up looking like Patrick Swayze do you? Oh God, he really does have sunken cheeks. Ok, you don't want to end up looking like Valerie Bertinelli. That brown eyeshadow streaked under her buccal fat deposits and the first chin are fooling no one. Surely the Jenny Craig gig pays enough for decent facial recontouring! She must have pots of money from all the money saved by not purchasing cigarettes by the gross for former hubby Eddie!

Anyway back to more important things. Spring makeup. Think angels. Translucent skin that glows from within. Softly flushed cheeks. A smoky eye (again, last season I swear), but in light tones, no black or browns here. A glossy sheer lip (the whole matte lip thing went to shit when no one could actually figure out how to apply it anymore).

I am listing some of my favorite products for spring and you know what is coming first. Primer. You can't do anything without decent skin, but we will get to skincare later in this blog. I love, love, love Smashbox Photo Finish Light. I have severely oily skin, and this does help my foundation from turning orange and dripping off my face.

I am sort of between foundations right now. I have been doing MakeUp Forever High Definition, but I am finding it too heavy. Check back with me later next week. My skin care Goddess, Christy Howell, is going to hook me up with some Jane Iredale products. This goes twice for concealer, I am using a Benefit one now that I am not attached to.

Cheeks, lips, and eyes are heavily in the pastels this year. Be looking for lots of violet shades for everything, including nails. Essie and Deborah Lippmann are both introducing sheer violet nail stains for spring. And Chanel has one so fabulous I can't even show you the picture right now, because I will be driven to immediately purchase it.

I am loving MAC Dame Edna collection among others, but I also am coveting two of their shadows: Digit and Idol Eyes. Both are pale violet/lavender with some shimmer.

I am also between mascaras, I have been using Maybelline's Colossal Lash, and like it. But nothing is ever enough, so I must try something else. Dior Diorshow is getting good spin as being lasharific. Heavy, thick lashes are what you want for Spring also. I have been sporting false ones on and off this season, so I may just do that again. So much easier than removing gloppy mascara. I like the Ardell brand, they are cheap enough to toss when you are through. Sort of like Ashton Kutcher is to Ms. Moore. Don't you think Ms. Moore has a very ugly portrait molding somewhere in her attic? Not even plastic surgery keeps you that fresh looking. Maybe she drinks his blood or perhaps she is an android. That certainly would explain her acting.

I am staying with my perennial fave for cheeks this season. Nars Orgasm is totally timeless, and for my skin tone is perfect in the spring. I start to look a little sallow by February and just can't bring myself to hit up the Tan in a Can. Forget real sun too, I've spent too much getting rid of my sun damage. I don't know if I look orgasmic after applying the product, but I do look somewhat excited, like maybe I just got a really good parking spot at the mall.

Fun, bright lip glosses and stains are very hot right now. We all loved the gorgeous matte deep crimson lips that fall predicted, but who the hell could actually do it? I tried a few times and kept having terrible 80's flashbacks. Lip liner, lip brush, cleaning up the edges, blotting, way more work than I am ready to put into lipstick application. I am loving Nars Niagara, the color to the left. It is a warm pinky coral with a fairly sheer application. My other favorite is Nars Roman Holiday, which is a very sheer delicate lavender pink. Sheer over glosses are still a favorite too and I am really feeling Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in Beige Velvet 127 (to the left).

And don't forget that glow on your skin! Nothing says "Broke but Beautiful" like Guerlain's Meteorites 3 in 1 Perfecting Powder. I love the Beige Chic, but there is a translucent and a pale pink versions as well.

Your probably thinking "why spend all this money when I could be helping the less fortunate or investing in gold?" Now really, if you were that clever, would you be reading a blog dedicated to all things frivolous? Exactly. You are here to learn to invest in yourself for the sole purpose of getting a new sugar daddy, because its possible your old one is unemployed or worse, his pension and investments are worthless. And you should have to suffer for that why?

Cute Girl Award Alert! While lunching today at Chile's with the Teenager, our very delightful server Jessica was sporting a very edgy eye look. Solid slash of vividly electric blue glitter liner on a pretty much bare face. She was kind enough to run to her handbag and show me the brand. It's a Claire's brand, you know Claire's the accessory shop. Anyway they have many different jewel tones, and it goes on super opaque. Super look on her, but tricky to pull off on yourself. I think you must need to be young, exotic, and gorgeous to pull this one off. Try it if you dare, and email me a pic if you are really daring.

Ciao for now. Join us later in the week as we discuss whether or not Victoria and Dave Beckham are this generations Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII. Just what this country needs, more vacuously attractive British Ex-pats. Well who the hell else would we worship? Paris Hilton? L.C? All hail the perfection that is Posh and her collection of Birkins!

Big Kisses!
